Ken Davy makes shock decision as Huddersfield Giants Chairman steps down with replacement confirmed

Huddersfield Giants owner Ken Davy has today announced his resignation as Chairman of Huddersfield Giants with immediate effect.

Davy took on the role in January 1996 and, after a roller-coaster 30 years, has decided to step away from the club after overseeing a League Leaders Shield win and three Challenge Cup Final appearances.

However, with the club at a critical juncture both on and off the field, he believes it is time for the club to “move forward with a new face, a new leadership and a new energy.”

The 84-year-old still owns the club, and will continue to support the club financially, though he will step away from the Chairman’s role, which will be taken up by former RFL CEO Ralph Rimmer, effective immediately.

Rimmer re-joined the Giants last season, initially to work on finding a new site for their stadium to be built upon. Since then, he has moved to becoming their ‘Director for Change’, and has now been promoted again to Chair.

Huddersfield will continue to look for a new stadium that will better suit their long-term needs. A new state-of-the-art training facility is on the way, whilst Davy has full support in Jim Lenihan to provide on-field change in terms of performances and results.

The club will make a “very significant” announcement in August, which will benefit both the supporters and partners, with both that and Rimmer’s appointment being labelled as “statements of intent.”
