Keith Senior’s Super League Predictions: Playoffs Week 2

Salford Red Devils vs Castleford Tigers (Thursday 7.45pm)

It’s do or die now for Salford after their defeat at Wigan last week. They really gave the Warriors a scare and can be proud of their efforts in a thrilling game. Castleford are already used to the knockout pressure having come through a scrappy game against Warrington. The Tigers defence was the key in claiming the upset win last week and they will come in as underdogs again tonight. But I think it’s a tag that suits Daryl Powell’s team and I just have a feeling they will edge this one and go within 80 minutes of the Grand Final.

St Helens vs Wigan Warriors (Friday 7.45pm)

Saints had their feet up last Friday while Wigan had to produce a real hard-thought win against a determined Salford team. I’m unsure whether the week off will really benefit Justin Holbrook’s team and a lot of the pressure will be on them. Having won the league by such a big margin, it would be travesty if they didn’t make the Grand Final. Wigan won’t care about that though and will fancy their chances of pulling off an upset, despite losing to their arch rivals three times this season. It will be a high-intensity game and I think Saints will handle the pressure better this time and progress to Old Trafford.
