Keith Senior’s Great Britain vs Papua New Guinea Prediction

Papua New Guinea vs Great Britain (Saturday 7.30am)

So this tour comes to an end and the Lions head to PNG having lost all three of their matches so far. Wayne Bennett looks almost certain to lose his job, we still have Australian players not just in the team but out of position, and we have flown Ash Handley to the other side of the world for no apparent reason.

Anyway to this game and PNG are going to be bang up for it. Great Britain’s players will be worshipped over there but they can’t let that go to their heads because they will be coming up against a very enthusiastic team. If they are not on their game, the most embarrassing part of this tour could still be to come. Rugby league is their national sport, there will be 15,000 fans packed into a stadium they could have sold four times over and you can’t deny that PNG have some quality players.

The Lions team hardly fills me with confidence. We have Hughes in the centre, Austin on the wing, Widdop and Hastings continuing their partnership in the halves and a team lacking any sort of real width. But this is a game they surely must win, for all we have our problems there are still hugely talented players within this group and although I don’t think it will be plain sailing, the Lions will get home by a couple of scores… I think.
