It is widely documented that the Warrington Wolves have spent some of the most money in Super League.
Some aim this as a criticism but Warrington CEO Karl Fitzpatrick has said that Simon Moran deserves a statue at the club:
He said on the Out of your League podcast: “I would say so just due to the investment. I think Simon did get a bit of abuse, and look I can accept it because I’m getting paid to do a job. Simon and Stuart Middleton, our chairman, are putting in significant sums in and they’re getting abuse.
“In terms of an individual that’s had an impact on a Super League club I can’t think of anyone more than Simon. I know he doesn’t like the limelight but there should be a statue of him. He’s so passionate about the club.”
Meanwhile, he also spoke about the abuse and blow back to the Wolves’ poor form in 2022:
“I felt for the people in the organisation that are public facing, the guys in the ticket office, the girls in the shop. Daryl was getting abuse, he tells a funny story actually that he was in a pub and a guy came up and gave him half a pint of mild and said ‘I’m giving you a half because you don’t deserve a pint.'”
