Wakefield hooker Josh Wood is set to miss the rest of the season with a suspected fractured bone in his neck.
The 24-year-old has featured on 10 occasions for Trinity, after signing from Salford ahead of this season.
It now appears his 2020 campaign is over, though, after suffering a neck injury in last week’s loss to St Helens.
“He’s still waiting on some scan results with a potential fracture to a bone in the neck,” said Wakefield head coach Chris Chester. “He had an MRI scan which showed a lot of fluid around the vertebrae and it looks like there’s some kind of crack there.
“I remember the tackle he did it when I think they scored the last try of the game last weekend. But he seems to think he did it quite early doors. It just shows how tough that kid is.
“So it looks like Josh Wood’s season most probably is over, which is really disappointing because I thought defensively he’s been fantastic for us.”
As well as Wood’s injury, loose forward Joe Westerman will also miss this week’s clash with Huddersfield with a knee injury.
Chester is hopeful, however, that his hooker options will be bolstered by the return of Kyle Wood, while the versatile Jordy Crowther is also in contention.
