Jordan Turner reveals just why he signed for Castleford Tigers

Jordan Turner has been one of Super League’s success stories in 2021.

After finding himself on the periphery at Huddersfield Giants, Turner made the move to Castleford Tigers where his career has once more picked up – to say the least.

And, now he has talked with podcast Trot The Egg In about how the initial move to the Jungle came about.

“If I’m being honest, the season had ended with Huddersfield and I knew that Simon Woolford had been let go and there was a new coach coming in,” Turner said.

“I remember I was in my house and my phone went off and it was Ian Watson.

“He said basically ‘I’ve got a lot of respect for you, but I want to make some room on the salary cap’, so I was like yeah fair enough and I started looking for a new club.

“I’m mature enough now and I would have preferred to dig my heels in and prove to Ian Watson that I could have been of value to him.”

However, Turner quickly revealed that all it took was one phone call with Daryl Powell to change his mind.

“I got a phone call saying Daryl Powell wanted to speak to me and I was like ‘ooh that’s a bit of me’.

“Daryl has always intrigued me as a rugby fan as to why he has gone to this club that has gone through the mire and transformed them into a team that can compete for silverware.

“As soon as I spoke to him my ears pricked and by now I’ve got a wife and two kids so financially it had to make sense to me and it all worked out so I agreed to it pretty quickly.

“My family told me to go for it and I just had an inkling that it would be a good fit of me being at that club.

“I didn’t know where I was going to play, but Daryl was someone i wanted to work under and I was right in the end.”
