Jordan Abdull reportedly set to complete sensational transfer because of Sam Tomkins

Recently retired Wigan Warriors and Catalans Dragons legend Sam Tomkins has masterminded a major transfer according to reports in France.

After the story was initially reported by Rugby League Live, L’Independent have reported that Catalans Dragons are set to sign Jordan Abdull on loan for the 2024 season despite the fact he agreed a deal with the club until the end of the 2026 season.

According to the French publication, Tomkins acted as mediator between the two clubs to tempt the England international over to France where he hopes to get over his injury worries in the same way Tom Johnstone has since he made the move over to Perpignan.

He is set to link up Theo Fages in a really high profile halfback pairing in a move born out the fact he and Willie Peters don’t see eye to eye according to reports.

L’Independent reported:

“The news has not yet been made official by both parties, but Hull Robins playmaker Jordan Abdull (27) is set to be loaned to Catalans Dragons until the end of the season. Abdull is expected to arrive in Perpignan next week.

“The future Dracs player certainly has one of the biggest kicking games in the competition, sending him to the doorstep of the England national team in 2021, before an injury prevented him from participating in the World Cup. The opportunity was too good for the Dracs who did not let the opportunity slip away, even if Théo Fages, Jayden Nikorima and César Rougé have been sharing the distribution of the game since the resumption of pre-season.

“The 27-year-old, on loan from KR, can also play in the back row and at full-back. His arrival in Perpignan will perhaps be the challenge that will allow him to get back to his level, after a mentally difficult off-season and two years marked by injuries. Sam Tomkins acted as a mediator between the Dragons club and the player who participated in Brutus at France.”

The deal is expected to be announced next week according to L’Independent in one of the most surprising transfers going into the 2024 season.

His future beyond the 2024 season is unclear being contracted at the Robins until 2026.
