Leeds Rhinos stalwart Jamie Jones-Buchanan has praised Hull FC forward Gareth Ellis ahead of the Challenge Cup semi-final between their teams.

Ellis has bounced back from a chest injury and will be looking to reach Wembley once again after the Black and Whites’ success at Wembley last year.

Jones-Buchanan had nothing but glowing words to say about his former teammate, who has been a superb servant for rugby league throughout his career, both in the UK and Australia.

“He’s a real competitor, a great winner and a nice lad as well,” Jones-Buchanan told rugby-league.com.

“I think everybody, regardless of what club they play for, really loves Gaz Ellis and has got a heck of a lot of respect for him.

“When he came back from Australia, we were really keen to get him back here because we know what he can bring.

“He’s world class as a back-rower and for any young kids out there wanting to learn to play back row certainly his career would be one to look at.

“He can change a game and having that presence in that team will lift everybody else.

“It’s like Sean O’Loughlin in the Wigan (Warriors) team, it brings that extra 10 to 15 per cent out in everybody else.”
