Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin has hit out at the first-half performance of Hull FC in their Magic Weekend clash versus London Broncos.
Hull went into halftime trailing the Broncos 12-4 with London good value for their lead after a sloppy first 40 minutes from both sides.
A win for London Broncos would see them draw level on points with Hull FC, although they’d still be bottom of Super League on points difference.
However, speaking on Sky Sports, Jon Wilkin has argued that Hull FC will finish bottom of the table if they “don’t get their act together” as he slammed the Black and Whites’ performance.
Speaking ahead of the game, Hull FC head coach Simon Grix had aimed to motivate his side by pegging the game as a relegation battle, despite the fact FC will be safe next season under the IMG grading.
Grix explained: “If we play the imagination game of your jobs being on the line and the fact three months from now you could be looking at something very different to a full-time rugby league career.
“I think if that doesn’t put a little bit of a fire under people, I’m not really sure what would.”
‘Questions have to be asked of Hull FC’ – Wilkin
After watching London’s head coach Mike Eccles calmly walk to the dressing room and his counterpart Simon Grix appear visibly more frustrated, Wilkin gave his verdict on Hull FC.
He stated: “If Hull don’t get their act together, then they’re going to get rolled here and they’ll finish bottom of the league and it’s unacceptable for Hull FC to finish bottom of this competition.
“Mike Eccles is relaxed because the consequences for him aren’t there but there should be consequences for Hull FC. They are way too good a club to be in the bottom of the league.”
He also was left asking questions about how a club such as Hull FC have fallen to such lows whilst also taking a shot at the players for a lack of leadership.
Wilkin asked: “How did they get from where they were to where they are now? That deserves answers because that first half of rugby showed that they’re almost accepting of that. They’re almost fine with that (standard) so Gareth Ellis is running on the field and blowing up seven minutes into a game.
“That’s not good enough. There’s no leadership on the field. The playing staff aren’t good enough so Mike Eccles should be very relaxed because he’s got nothing to lose.”
London have since extended their lead to 14-4 with FC looking set to fall to a second defeat to the capital side.
