Jon Wilkin tears into Zane Tetevano for “mental” red card

Zane Tetevano has been sent off to make Leeds Rhinos’ hopes against Wigan Warriors remote at best with the Rhinos trailing 14-6.

Speaking after the incident Jon Wilkin tore into Tetevano for the incident.

He said on Sky Sports: “Tetevano applying pressure and he squares Harry Smith up, hits him with his shoulder. It is that whiplash contact that we are trying to get out of the game and you can’t do this anymore.

“He spots an opportunity. But it is high-ish, it is late definitely, it is illegal.”

He went on to add that it was “not good” and was something that needs removing from the game:

“It’s not good, it’s not right and we don’t need that in our game.

“Harry Smith has passed the ball, then it is a poor decision from Tetevano.”

In fact Wilkin went on to describe it as “shocking” from Tetevano:

“There is no need to do it though. If anything it is a shocking read from him. He comes from outside in, and is not doing his job defensively and has created an opportunity on the outside and has just been sent off.

“That is mental from Zane Tetevano.”

It is his third red card as a Leeds player as the Rhinos are now against the eight ball against one of their biggest rivals.
