There were some big games last night but especially the clash at the top of the table between Warrington Wolves and St Helens despite interesting clashes between Wakefield Trinity and Wigan Warriors and Castleford Tigers and Leigh Leopards.
But the game at the Halliwell Jones Stadium was a real classic clash between two sides on their game, good to see for Warrington after their recent woes.
There were some outstanding rugby throughout the night such as Matt Dufty’s breaks, Ashton’s breaks and delightful brace including a sensational intercept try.
But the Saints played some great rugby too crossing through a great line from Mark Percival before a brilliant move was finished by James Bell.
It was started by a ball inside from Lewis Dodd to Jack Welsby which Warrington fans felt was forward.
“They have done very well. They have defended well and stood their ground,” Barrie McDermott said on Sky Sports.
“And let’s be fair they have only been unpicked by one bad defensive misread and let’s be honest a forward pass.
“It was forward every day of the week.”
Jon Wilkin meanwhile had some sympathy for the official: “It was forward wasn’t it.
“It’s closer than it actually looks. There are two factors, Jack Welsby cuts under and Lewis Dodd is falling but it is forward.”
But he felt the Wolves should have concentrated more on defending the play rather than the pass:
“Warrington could have defended that but they have let the forward pass be the defining factor.
“Saints just got on with it.”
