Jon Wilkin suggests broadcasters set Warrington up to fail

Warrington Wolves have won five from five to start the season and look in red hot form.

However, we have seen Warrington do this before. In the likes of 2011 and 2016, the Wolves were the top team in the league but could not translate that to Grand Final glory.

Thus, Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin has has suggested that people shouldn’t big the Wolves up too much at this stage of the season saying in the past broadcasters have set the Wire up to disappoint.

He said: “Well we were all watching Warrington last year expecting them to get going and never did.

“They have spent more than any other team in the competition and certainly have done again this year but this season they seem to be delivering.

“In the opening five rounds they have just been exceptional, their form form has been outstanding.

“What you would like me to say here is ‘is that Warrington are a team that can go on and win everything and are we in a situation where they can go on and be unbeaten all year’ but I’m not going to say that.

“As broadcasters we build this Warrington team up to a point where they are ready to trip up.

“Warrington have been great but there is a long way to go in this season.”

Of course, fans often chant “it’s always your year” to their Warrington counterparts which is something coach Daryl Powell has been vocal about stopping.

But in the eyes of Wilkin broadcasters are just as responsible.
