For rugby league players, there is probably no better accolade than to be looked at with great respect by your peers.
Winning a Players’ Player of the Year Award is perhaps more rewarding than any other club achievement, so when one former Super League legend calls you the best player in the league, then you sit up and take note.
For St Helens loose forward Morgan Knowles, that is exactly what he was called by Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin.
“He’s the best player in Super League,” Wilkin said on the Out Of Your League podcast (20 minutes in).
“That’s why when names were tossed up to see who we would get on the podcast, I pushed for Morgan to be on here more than anyone else because I firmly believe he is the best player in Super League by some stretch.”
Wilkin also believed that he would earn that title from his peers, too.
“That isn’t any metric measured from the broadcasting side of things because we love to show people scoring tries and there are way more exciting attacking players than Morgan Knowles.
“But I reckon if you had a show of hands in the league at the minute I don’t think he would be far off being voted the best player in Super League by the players.”
