Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin has described Hull KR half-back Tyrone May as ‘rocks or diamonds’ while bizarrely pointing to his fresh hairstyle.
May has been in action for the Robins this evening as Willie Peters’ side face Warrington Wolves for the right to move to the top of the Super League table.
The 28-year-old has been part of a half-back partnership with Mikey Lewis that has been lighting up the Super League this season, with the pair carrying the Robins to within touching distance of the league summit prior to the clash at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
However, Brian Carney posed the question during Sky’s pre-match analysis that the Robins might not have someone capable of controlling big games such as the clash with Warrington. Wilkin pointed to Lewis as someone playing that role for the east Hull outfit before mentioned May’s hairstyle new hairstyle, a shaven head with a pair of plaits at the back, as something that sets ‘alarm bells’ ringing.
“I think potentially there is,” Wilkin said when asked about the control in KR’s spine. “The evidence suggests that when games are pinch, I think about the Catalans game at Craven Park when the game was tight and what we saw was Tyrone May trying to throw a cut out pass into touch.
“The question is: Is there anyone that steady the ship and be a rudder for them? I think Mikey Lewis can.
“Alarm bells for me, Tyrone May walks in in sunglasses, he’s had his hair cut in a pretty snazzy hairstyle. That shouts rocks or diamonds for me tonight. That’s rocks or diamonds.”
May has been a key player for Hull KR this season, with the former Catalans half-back scoring four tries, including Rovers’ second in the clash at the Halliwell Jones, and creating eight more.
