Jon Wilkin makes Bevan French argument as pundits split on Super League Dream Team

Sky Sports pundits Jon Wilkin and Sam Tomkins have selected their Super League Dream Teams with the pair split on three players, including whether or not to include Bevan French.

French has been at his electric best whenever he has played in Super League this year. The problem, however, is that he has only played in 15 of the 27 rounds, a mere 60% of games.

Despite playing just 15 times, he has racked up 33 try contributions at a rate of over two per game, with the playmaker scoring 11 and creating 22 more and for that reason, Jon Wilkin has selected the Wigan man.

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of Wigan’s 50-12 win over Catalans that secured the League Leaders Shield, a game in which French would register two assists, Wilkin said: “It’s about winning and Bevan will win Wigan the competition.

“Since he’s come back in, he’s been the best player in Super League. I don’t care how long he’s played, he lights up our competition.

“Last week, he was simply the difference between the two sides [Wigan and Leeds]. At this time of year, I want Bevan French in my team.”

What Sam Tomkins and Jon Wilkin’s Super League Dream Teams look like

Sam Tomkins meanwhile picked Leeds’ Brodie Croft in his team, with the Leeds man scoring an incredible 28 tries across his 26 Super League games in 2026.

Croft also racked up 12 assists to take his try contribution tally to 40, something that only teammate Jake Connor [four tries and 43 assists] can best.

Tomkins pointed to those tries and Croft’s availability as he made his case, but the pair also differed on two more players, albeit for different reasons again.

Whilst Wilkin had picked French despite playing just 60% of games and Tomkins went for Croft due to his consistency, it was Tomkins who picked Junior Nsemba in the second-row despite the Wigan man playing just 18 of the 27 games this season. Meanwhile, Wilkin picked Toulouse’s Mathieu Jussaume, who registered an impressive 16 tries in his maiden season in Super League.

The pair were also split at prop as Tomkins went with Wakefield’s Caius Faatili but Wilkin went with Wigan’s Ethan Havard.
