Jon Wilkin called out for derby day opinion

It’s Rivals Round this week as the two biggest derbies take place on Good Friday.

The Easter period sees, as always, Hull FC and Hull KR battle as well as Wigan Warriors against Champions St Helens.

As we prepare for these big games, Hull KR skipper has spoken about the derby on the Bench Podcast:

“It’s unreal, those are the big games that you want to be a part of.

“You quickly learn when you come to Hull that those days are earmarked in the calendar.

“I don’t think you understand the full magnitude until you get out there and experience it for yourself, you’ve got a full house for pretty much every derby game.

“It’s so important to the fans and they come out in numbers and you buy into that passion and you buy into the derby and learn pretty quickly that you have to perform on those days.”

Then Jon Wilkin revealed he thinks the Hull derby is the biggest: “It’s not like a distant passion, let’s say England play Australia, there’s such a disconnect between the countries in terms of space, time and geography and everything.

“When you play a derby it’s people on the same street, people that care for each other, people in the same families and that passion is different.

“That’s what the Hull derby is and that’s why for me the Hull derby is the biggest derby in the game, even though I played for St Helens against Wigan.”

Then co-host Jenna Brooks called him out revealed last year he claimed Wigan vs Saints was a bigger game

Wilkin responded: “I change my mind a lot and for anybody sad enough to go and find that comment, good luck!”
