Jon Wilkin brands Super League coach as “naive”

Jon Wilkin Hull FC

Super League is only two weeks old about to enter its third week but of course there are constant questions being raised about coaches almost constantly.

Before the season this was brought up frequently and will of course be the nature of things as the season unfolds.

There is of course massive pressure on Sam Burgess in his first job at Warrington Wolves and Jon Wilkin has described him as naive.

He said on Sky Sports: “I think the appointment of Sam Burgess as head coach is massive news, not only here but in Australia as well. It made waves didn’t it? I think Warrington needed to do that with that appointment.

“He’s a naive coach, look he’s not got any experience. But for me that’s exciting but it also comes with a nervousness about, I don’t think Sam really knows what to expect from his coaching career and see this infancy that much. But expectation follows Sam Burgess around like a bad smell. It’s been around him since he was a young man. Talk about premature onto the international stage into a massive career in the game.

“So everything has happened early. Sam Tomkins made that point a few weeks ago. Expectation, without doubt, follows him. And he relishes it, right?”

Super League star reflects on viral tackle

This came as his skipper and Super League star George Williams reflected on being the victim of a viral tackle from Tariq Sims in Round One. On this, Williams said on Sky Sports: “Yeah, Brian, it’s just a little ankle injury which is disappointing, I’ve just picked up a niggle, but really excited to see the boys play at home tonight.”

Williams viral tackle from Tariq Sims on him (had over a million views on social media Wales online did a piece on it)

“You know, it’s great for the game. I went on Facebook and every social media, and it was me getting smashed basically.

“But do you know what, it didn’t hurt one bit, not one bit, it was the cleanest hit of my life.

“You know it was the first time I’ve been smashed like that, I’ll be honest.”
