Jon Wilkin backs shock Super League side to win the Grand Final

Jon Wilkin slams Leeds Rhinos

This weekend we will see more big fixtures in the Betfred Super League as Leeds Rhinos host Hull KR, Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves collide and Super League and World Champions St Helens host League Leaders Catalans Dragons.

A big weekend and it feels pivotal for Leeds and Hull KR who meet at Headingley at 20:00 on Friday night.

For the Robins it is about getting through the 80 minutes and trying to find a way to win on a day they will be without some key injured players, giving a debut to NRL signing Brad Schneider and looking ahead to the Challenge Cup semi-final against Wigan at the same stadium next week.

They can’t afford to lose the game however as the situation demands a win so they can’t shift all their focus on getting to Wembley as they and Leeds are currently level on points and so the winner could move level with Salford Red Devils before they take on Leigh Leopards.

For the rest of Super League the situation at Headingley is becoming all too familiar. A year ago Leeds were just about hitting their stride in an amazing run of form that took them all the way to the Grand Final.

This run truly started with a thumping win over Hull FC away backed up by a Magic Weekend triumph over Castleford Tigers before sending a message to the rest of Super League when they thrashed Wigan Warriors at Headingley.

This year their turn around started a few weeks earlier and they know have won three on the spin against Huddersfield Giants, Warrington and Salford.

Speaking on Sky Sports this week Jon Wells said that they are “white hot.”

He dis acknowledge that Leeds are not where they want to be but could still win the comp.

He said: “I still don’t think the club are where they want to be or where Gary Hetherington would want them, just limping into the play-offs.

“But I still think they could continue this run and win the competition.”

If they are to do so a win against Hull KR is vital to their hopes.
