Jon Wilkin and Sam Tomkins blast Leeds Rhinos

The halftime verdict is in from Jon Wilkin and England captain Sam Tomkins speaking on Sky Sports.

The duo were assessing the sensational start from Warrington Wolves against Leeds Rhinos in Super League’s opening game of 2023.

Speaking at the break, Catalans Dragons star Tomkins was wax-lyrical about what the Warrington Wolves brought as they thrashed Leeds in the first half taking a 30-0 into the break as they tore through Leeds and played the game almost exclusively in the Leeds half.

Tomkins said: “They have been levels above Leeds. They have hammered them. They have been brilliant in defence too and done real damage to Leeds. Leeds just can’t cope with them at the minute.”

Meanwhile, Jon Wilkin was impressed be a reinvigorated George Williams who alongside Josh Drinkwater pulled the strings for the Wolves in the first half.

He believed that it was ominous for the rest of Super League the way he was playing:

“George Williams was low on confidence but he has had the World Cup and it is ominous for the rest of the Super League when he is playing instinctive.”

Turning to Leeds, they accused the Rhinos of “soft defence” with Wilkin saying: “Soft defence. He has got to tackle him.” When analysing Daryl Clark’s try which made it 14-0.

Tomkins said of Martin’s tackle attempt: “He will be pretty embarrassed that he’s tackled like that.”

The Wolves scored through Matt Dufty, Clark, Josh Thewlis, Danny Walker and Sam Kasiano.
