Jon Wells reveals his five Man of Steel contenders for Super League 2022

The Man of Steel is the most prestigious award given to an individual during a Super League season.

Last year’s winner, Sam Tomkins, won the accolade for the second time in his career and now Sky Sports analyst Jon Wells has predicted his five contenders for 2022.

Tomkins is listed amongst Wells’ five with the Catalans Dragons fullback raring to go as he attempts to take the French club to Grand Final glory after missing out in 2021.

New Leeds Rhinos signing Aidan Sezer has also been included by Wells as the former Huddersfield Giants star makes the shift to their West Yorkshire rivals.

The diminutive halfback signed a two-year deal at Headingley as he attempts to steer Leeds back to Old Trafford.

Lachlan Coote makes the list after making the move from three-in-a-row Super League champions St Helens to Hull KR.

The Australian will become one of the Robins’ key players in 2022, striking up a partnership with Mikey Lewis and Jordan Abdull.

Jack Welsby and Mitchell Pearce are ready to have big seasons for St Helens and Catalans respectively and both will be vital to their teams’ abilities to return to Old Trafford later in the year.

Wells has picked both of those in his five, too.
