Jon Wells reveals Castleford almost signed star fullback in his time at the club

Jon Wells spent three years at Castleford Tigers as Director of Rugby, leaving the Jungle earlier this year.

He continues to be a Sky Sports pundit and revealed, in the pre-match build-up to Toulouse Olympique’s Championship semi-final play-off against Batley Bulldogs, that he almost signed one Toulouse star in his time at Castleford.

That man was fullback Mark Kheirallah, who has lit up the second tier for a number of seasons.

“Mark Kheirallah was a player I tried to sign when I was at Castleford after the Zak Hardaker departure,” Wells said.

“We were very close to signing him but he wanted to stay at Toulouse and help them get into Super League.

“So there’s credit to him for wanting to stay and do that.”

Wells did eventually sign Jordan Rankin, but he moved on in 2020, with Niall Evalds now the main man at the back for the Tigers.
