Leeds Rhinos’ head coach is expected to be named tomorrow with a whole host of names still expected to be in the hat.
Recently, chief executive Gary Hetherington has travelled to Australia in order to interview candidates in Brisbane and Sydney.
But, for Sky Sports pundit and analyst Jon Wells, there is an obvious choice from Australia as well as one which is more out of left field.
“Shane Flanagan is the obvious one, but I think he would be hard pressed to get him away from a commentary role,” Wells said on Sky Sports.
“So, I think that’s unlikely.
“Ryan Carr – they know a bit about him from his time at Featherstone and he comes highly-rated.
“Jason Ryles is a bit of one out of left field but he’s come through the system at Melbourne.”
The decision on the new Leeds head coach couldn’t come soon enough for the West Yorkshire club, who went down 16-14 to neighbours Castleford Tigers yesterday.
A number of names have been touted in the past, including those above with a whole host of British names linked too, though Tony Smith, Danny McGuire and Danny Ward have ruled themselves out of the running.
