Jon Wells claims Super League coach is on a seven day warning

Last night on Sky Sports, questions were raised about whether or not Wakefield Trinity should part company with Mark Applegarth after eight defeats from eight knowing that they can’t generate the player turnover other sides can to spark their season.

However, former Leeds Rhinos interim Head Coach Jamie Jones-Buchanan said the club should stay with him: “I’d stick with him, I’d stick with it.

“We had to do it at Leeds, the coach left and we had to appoint someone who stirred us away from the monotony and we got to the Grand Final, you could always see the potential was there.

“It is a different context with Wakefield, the turn over of players there with 10 debuts, 27 players used, there is all kinds of calamity there.

“You could get Wayne Bennett at his best and I’m not sure he could turn that around.

“I am not sure there is someone with more passion than Mark Applegarth.”

However, Jon Wells believes that Applegarth is on a seven day warning now after the defeat and likened his situtation to being an interim head coach like opposite number last night Andy Last:

“As Andy Last has been, I believe he is on a week by week trial now.

“They now need to look to the next game and now he is on a seven day warning.”
