John Cartwright names his first Hull FC squad with 7 signings to debut

- 07/01/2025 - Rugby League - Betfred Super League - Hull FC Media Day - The MKM Stadium, Hull, England - John Cartwright.

John Cartwright has named his first-ever Hull FC squad with seven signings in line to debut against Castleford Tigers.

Hull FC are one of just a few Super League teams yet to play a pre-season game alongside Leigh Leopards and Catalans Dragons but the Black and Whites will play their first and last game of the pre-season on Saturday when they take on Castleford Tigers.

The fixture will serve as former Hull FC man Joe Westerman’s testimonial match with the forward making a total of 160 appearances for the Black and Whites during his two spells at the MKM Stadium.

Cartwright has named an extended squad for the game with 28 players named, albeit five are youth players, with a total of seven new signings named.

Among those new signings are Jordan Rapana, Aidan Sezer, Cade Cust, Amir Bourouh, Zak Hardaker, Hugo Salabio and John Asiata with all potentially set for their debut. New recruit Oliver Holmes does not feature.

Hull FC squad named to face Castleford Tigers

John Cartwright had spoken previously about the fact that he expected “pretty much” the whole squad to be available for the Castleford Tigers game.

Hull FC have confirmed that four players will miss out through injury whilst Yusuf Aydin misses out through suspension with his ban carrying over from the 2024 season.

The injured players are Davy Litten (knee), Jack Charles (ankle), Matty Laidlaw (knee) and Nick Stavely (ACL) but the good news is that Brad Fash is fit after missing parts of the pre-season.

Fans will have a chance to see how the new backline looks with questions over whether Jordan Rapana will play at full-back or on the wing to allow young Logan Moy to keep developing.

There will also be a chance to see how Cade Cust operates out of the halves with the Australian expected to partner Aidan Sezer following Jordan Abdull’s release.
