Hull FC

John Cartwright has named his first competitive squad as head coach of Hull FC. The Black and Whites take on York Acorn in the third round of the Challenge Cup this weekend with the contest taking place at Featherstone Rovers’ Millennium Stadium.

Unlike his Super League counterparts Brad Arthur and Paul Wellens, who have also named squads to take on amateur opposition, Cartwright has left out most of his top 13.

John Asiata is included and he’ll captain the side in West Yorkshire on what will be his first meaningful run out for the club. Asiata joined the Black and Whites from Leigh Leopards over the off-season and he’ll be keen to set the tone against York and help ease Hull into the next round.

Cade Cust, Oliver Holmes and Hugo Salabio are all included, too, with Cartwright naming just four of his new recruits in the squad. Harvey Barron and Lewis Martin look set to appear on the wings, while senior pack names such as Yusuf Aydin, Jack Ashworth and Brad Fash have been named, too.

Logan Moy, Denive Balmforth and Zach Jebson are amongst the youngsters expected to feature heavily in the contest with the former potentially set for a start in round one of Super League against Catalans Dragons in Perpignan next week, while others will certainly be keen to put their best foot forward.

Aidan Sezer, Jordan Rapana, Zak Hardaker, Amir Bourouh, Herman Ese’ese and Ligi Sao are among the Hull players who have been given the weekend off by their new head coach.

Hull FC squad to face York Acorn: Harvey Barron, John Asiata, Cade Cust, Oliver Holmes, Yusuf Aydin, Jack Ashworth, Brad Fash, Will Gardiner, Lewis Martin, Logan Moy, Denive Balmforth, Zach Jebson, Ryan Westerman, Hugo Salabio, Will Kirby, Will Hutchinson, Lloyd Kemp, Joe Ward, Owen Haldenby, Lennon Clark, Ben Johnson.
