Hull FC have confirmed that Aidan Sezer will continue to captain the club through the 2026 Super League season.
Sezer took on the skipper role shortly after joining the club a year ago and went on to star for the Black and Whites under John Cartwright.
He made 27 appearances for the club last season with four tries coming along the way and his performance were enough to see him finish seventh in the Man of Steel race. The impact he had on his teammates was clear to see last season and the half-back took the side on his back at times, too
As such, the decision to stick with the Australian will come as a surprise to very few, and the same can be said about John Asiata keeping hold of the vice-captaincy.
“It’s a massive honour to be named captain once again,” Sezer told Hull FC club media. “This is a prestigious club so to be awarded the captaincy is something that I am really relishing and I’m looking forward to leading this new group.
“I’ve loved my time here so far; to have the captaincy means it’s up to you to lead with your actions – something I’m really big on. Helping those younger inexperienced boys to come through and be the best version of themselves is also a big part.
“This is a tight group; there’s no cliques, and I love coming in every day. It’s refreshing to be amongst a squad like this at this stage of my career. Hand on my heart, this is one of the best groups I’ve been a part of.”
Sezer will be leading what is something of a new look group with eight signings being brought in over the off-season. The addition of Jake Arthur means he will have a new half-back partner to play off, while the arrivals of Sam Lisone, Joe Batchelor, Harvie Hill and James Bell ensure the former Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants man will be playing behind one of the most powerful packs in the division this year.
