John Cartwright explains how Hull FC will be helping Brisbane Broncos prepare for World Club Challenge

Hull FC will be looking to work closely with Brisbane Broncos when the NRL champions arrive in East Yorkshire next month.

The Broncos are travelling to Hull to take on Hull KR at the MKM Stadium in the World Club Challenge on Thursday, February 19. Michael Maguire’s side, which is packed to the brim with genuine rugby league superstars, will be arriving in the city the previous Sunday, with sessions and events being planned in the days leading up to the showdown with the Robins.

As such, having the Broncos in the city provides FC with an opportunity they are keen not to miss out on and with John Cartwright being a former Brisbane assistant coach, he has put the call in.

Of course, with Hull playing Bradford Bulls on the Saturday night in round one of Super League, a full opposed session looks difficult to organise between the two sides.

However, the Black and Whites will send some bodies over to train with the Broncos and it seems as though they’ll throw their doors open and allow the Aussies to use their gym facilities.

It’s an agreement that suits the Broncos, of course, as they look to become the first NRL outfit to win the World Club Challenge since Sydney Roosters in 2020. It also suits Hull as they bid to watch and learn from the side many believe is the best in the business right now.

Hull FC set to help out Brisbane Broncos

“I’ve had a little bit of conversation with them,” Cartwright told Serious About Rugby League. “They get into Hull on the Sunday, they’re looking at doing a session on Monday and we’re coming off the back of a Saturday game. At the moment they want us to provide some players.

“They’re bringing 20 so they just want some players to be able to do some opposed. We’ll provide some players and at the moment, the plan is that they’re going to use our gym as well. They’ll do a bit of a tour of the city and I’ll bring all the players in so they can see how they go about things.

“It would be great for us, they’re the NRL champions and there’s a lot of representative players as well. It would just be good to see how they go about go about things.”
