John Cartwright has officially left Hull FC in order to take up a head coach role elsewhere in Super League.
As part of the news that Cartwright would step down from first-team duties last month, the club also revealed that he would remain employed by the club until the end of 2026.
However, he has now departed the MKM Stadium officially, taking the helm at Catalans Dragons until the season’s end.
The 60-year-old will take over from Ryan Sheridan, who has been acting as interim boss following the premature exit of Joel Tomkins earlier this season.
Whether the former Gold Coast Titans boss remains at the club longer-term remains to be seen, but it will certainly be a boost for Catalans to have a man of his experience come in to steady the ship for the rest of the campaign.
Cartwright will take charge of his first Dragons game this weekend, where the club take on York Knights on Saturday evening.

Former Hull FC boss John Cartwright appointed Catalans Dragons head coach
Commenting on his new role, Cartwright said: “I am really looking forward to the rest of the season with Catalans.
“It came totally out of the blue, which makes it all the more exciting. [I] Can’t thank Bernard [Guasch] enough for this opportunity.
Hull FC can confirm that John Cartwright has been released from the remainder of his contract with immediate effect to allow him to take up an opportunity with another Betfred Super League club.

I hope John Cartwright and his new Catalans team really stuff Hull FC when they play in August. I think he was treated abominably by Hull FC, and wish him every success.
