Wigan Warriors have announced that senior forward Joel Tomkins has been suspended from team selection immediately for 4 weeks after a video involving him and brother, Sam Tomkins, was posted on social media.
The video included an incident that the club felt needed further investigation.
Whilst the investigation takes place, Joel will not be put forward for team selection for the Wigan side and has been handed a £10,000 fine. Whilst Sam, also included in the video, has been fined £5,000.
The club will now run a full investigation and will consider the best course of action for both player and club.
Kris Radlinski, executive director at Wigan, stated;
“I was pretty disgusted at the video that I saw on Saturday evening. Our players know and fully understand the role that they have to play within the community and to see two of our high profile, senior players behave in such a way, disappointed me greatly.
“Having spoken to both Joel and Sam this morning they both expressed shame and regret about their behaviour and the effects it has had on all of the individuals concerned. Both of them are fully aware that they have disrespected the Club and the town – and let themselves and their families down.”
Wigan will not comment further until a full investigation has taken place.
