Joe Shorrocks’ silverware statement as St Helens man inks new deal ahead of Challenge Cup semi-finals

St Helens’ latest piece of retention has seen Joe Shorrocks put pen to paper on a new three-year contract.

Shorrocks joins Alex Walmsley and Jake Davies in signing new deals that club in recent weeks, and it means that the Red Vee now have eight players off-contract at the season’s end, with two of those being Tristan Sailor and Jackson Hastings.

The former Wigan Warriors man has made an instant impact at the club, averaging over 37 tackles per game and being able to play a number of positions due to injuries in the squad.

Shorrocks had huge shoes to fill, coming in for Morgan Knowles, but his consisent performances have not gone unnoticed, and the club’s higher-ups have been that impressed, he has landed a new deal just 10 matches into his Saints career.

The loose forward hopes to pay back that faith, and after signing until the end of 2029 hopes to have some trophies to show for it by the end of that period.

“I definitely want to win silverware,” the 26-year-old said in his extension announcement. I want to be challenging every year, make great relationships on and off the field, and I feel like I’ve already started doing that in a short space of time.

“Winning something is definitely up there for me, and to bring some silverware back to St Helens would be really special.”

Saints have a chance to do just that in the upcoming month, with a Challenge Cup semi-final against Wigan Warriors just days away.

Should they win that, they will travel to Wembley to take on either Hull KR/Warrington Wolves as the Red Vee look for their 14th Challenge Cup trophy.

St Helens man loving life after contract extension

With Shorrocks being just 10 matches into life at a new club, most players at this time would still be adjusting to their new surroundings, but the Saints man has found it easy to adapt to his new club with a few familiar faces helping him out.

He said: “I love it. From my first day, I’ve loved it here, and it feels like home. It did when I first came, and I’m just really happy to extend my stay.

“Knowing Rowls [Paul Rowley] and knowing a few of the lads really helped me settle in. But I think it’s my personality as well.

“I get on well with everyone here, so coming to work doesn’t feel like work. It’s a really good place to be for me.”
