Castleford Tigers ran out 40-16 winners over Leeds Rhinos today at Headingley in the Challenge Cup Sixth Round.
In doing so, the Tigers earned a quarter-final draw away at Hull KR, who themselves overcame Leigh Centurions 24-18.
For Jamie Peacock and Jon Wilkin – two of the pundits in the BBC studio – however, there was a major difference between Leeds and Castleford.
‘There are two things, it’s about belief and trust and Joe Westerman showed he’s got belief in his coach and he trusts the processes,” Peacock said.
“The whole team had trust in the process.
“You see the Leeds team and I don’t think they had the belief in each other and I don’t think they trusted each other – you can’t change trust overnight.”
Wilkin too believed that there was a major attitude difference between the two sides.
“I said they were a side that can’t defend but I think they’ve put a statement out there that they can,” Wilkin said.
“I think the attack was slick – when you’ve got players like Joe Westerman, Jake Trueman and Niall Evalds then you’re going to be good in attack.
“The defensive thing is a mindset and Leeds just haven’t got that at the minute.
“It takes discipline to stick with something , you need to believe in a process and you can see that lack of belief isn’t there defensively.”
Leeds, of course, were rocked by the news last week that Richard Agar was to step down as head coach with Jamie Jones-Buchanan coming in as interim boss.
But, Jones-Buchanan’s first taste of coaching action came with a heavy defeat.
