Tonight after two heavy defeats, Hull FC have the unenviable task of taking on the Champions St Helens after their own recent defeats.

The Champions could be likened to a wounded animal ready to lash out and Hull boss Tony Smith said this should put “the fear of God” into his players.

Speaking on Sky Sports last night, Jamie Jones-Buchanan slammed Hull FC’s defence against Salford Red Devils.

He said: “I was quite alarmed by their defence against Salford. It was like they didn’t want to get their kit muddy at all. It was like touch and pass.

“It was very grabby. Listen that could go within a week. If you are going to compete against a team who are going to be wanting to get back to winning games.

“They are going to have to get their shoulders in front of bodies.”

Meanwhile, Barrie McDermott would go on to describe the Black and Whites’ performance as “way off it.”

He said: “They were way off it last week. Salford when that ball sticks for them they are as good as any team but defence is key for any side.”

Hull started the season with two wins against Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos before those defeats to Catalans Dragons and Salford Red Devils.

In them they conceded a combined 98 points scoring just 20.
