Jamie Jones-Buchanan questions controversial red card decision

Leeds Rhinos legend Jamie Jones-Buchanan has said he was “disappointed” to see Hull FC’s battle with St Helens “spoiled” by the red card for Josh Griffin.

Griffin was sent off for dissent for something he said to referee Chris Kendall at halftime.

On this, Buchanan said on BBC: “I am disappointed that an event has been spoiled. It is more than a game, it is an event and it has been spoiled by a bit of nonsense.”

He went on to question when Kendall didn’t referee the incident in a different way hoping that the spectacle could have been saved rather than squandered because of the red card:

“I am looking at Chris Kendall there and thinking, can he deal with that a little bit differently?

“I think rugby league and the bigger picture. It is more than rugby league, it is a big event and can bring eyeballs onto the game.

“Can you deal with it a bit differently.”

That said he also believes dissent is killing the game:

“At the same time, there is too much dissent and young people are replicating that and it is killing the game.”
