Catalans Dragons battered Wigan Warriors in the Magic Weekend to claim top spot.

Jamie Jones-Buchanan spoke about surprised he was by the result.

“I am not that surprised, surprised by the gap maybe. It was a rugby league masterclass. I expected them to come here and perform,” he said.

“There was a lot of up for grabs going to the top of the table.

“I’m a little bit surprised how far Wigan were especially defensively on the right edge.”

Buchanan also branded Johnstone as the “premier winger” in the competition:

“Tom Johnstone is the best winger in the competition for me. He is the premier winger for me.”

As Johnstone was praised so was Matt Whitley by Jon Wilkin.

Wilkin said on Sky Sports:

“Inside of him, his backrower Matt Whitley has probably produced one of the best performances as a backrower that I have seen for a long time.

“He bagged a brace as well today. He was clinical. The full left edge was clinical and he did indeed bag a brace.

“A line running backrower, he was exceptional.”
