James Ford had Super League interest

James Ford recently signed a new three-year deal at the York City Knights.

But, within the past few years, his stock has grown considerably, to the point at which Super League clubs have come knocking.

In his new three-year deal, however, there is no Super League release clause and his agent, Craig Harrison of Show Me The Money UK, told the Full Eighty Minutes that top-flight clubs have come calling recently.

“Fordy is just happy to be at the club” Harrison said.

“They’ve backed him and he’s backed them – he’s shown a lot of loyalty to York as they have with him.

“He gets on with the board, the club, the players and fans, but Fordy has had interest to go into Super league and have a go, but good on them both.”

Ford said on his new deal: “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s a project that I’m really enjoying and I think that, over the time I’ve been here, the progress the club has made is very clear and evident.

“The thing that excites me the most, however, is the potential of the club. I don’t think we’ve got anywhere close to fulfilling the club’s potential yet which is really exciting.”

The former Castleford Tigers, Widnes Vikings and York player has been in charge of the City Knights since 2015 and will be hoping to push for Super League promotion in 2022.
