Jake Trueman Hull FC future including Wakefield & Trueman verdicts, ‘toxic’ claim

Hull FC halfback Jake Trueman, who is out injured and has been linked with Wakefield Trinity.

Jake Trueman and his future at Hull FC is in doubt and the halfback is on the sidelines again at the moment with another injury. It has been a tough time for Trueman since his move to the Black and Whites was announced in the summer of 2022.

Since that point he suffered a season-ending ACL injury at Castleford shortly after the announcement, meaning he joined FC on the back of one of the most serious injuries a rugby league player can suffer.

He returned to the field and to form last year, helping inspire Hull FC to a good run of form but then he sustained an Achilles tear which cost him more time coming into 2024. It’s fair to say he hasn’t looked his old self this season and has now picked up a calf injury which will keep him sidelined.

All of this comes amid talk about where he could be heading next season. When the Black and Whites were said to be close to signing Lachlan
Lam for next season, Trueman’s potential exit was talked up as a way for the club to fit Lam in. But Lam has extended his contract with Leigh Leopards and that throws more questions the way of FC around Trueman.

Here is the latest news on Trueman’s future and injury status.

Trueman to Wakefield report

Love Rugby League reported last month that Lam’s potential move to Hull would lead to a knock-on impact which could see Jake Trueman join Wakefield Trinity. The report stated that Wakefield are after a halfback ahead of 2025 if they return to Super League and said Trueman has been ‘lined up’.

Powell on Trueman to Wakefield links

Wakefield head coach Daryl Powell has responded to the Jake Trueman Hull to Wakefield links. Powell said: “I won’t comment on that, there are loads of things in the press at the moment. Jake’s a quality player, we all know that, but I’ve got nothing to say about that.”

Trueman talks injury setback

Trueman’s latest injury setback is a calf problem and he responded to concerns over his future availability on social media by putting the record straight.

“Appreciate all the love in the comments, Achilles is all good just pulled a muscle in my calf,” he said while replying to a Hull Live post on X. “Nothing too serious, hopefully get a few games in before the end of the season.”

Hull FC fans labelled ‘toxic’

The vast majority of reaction to Trueman’s injury was one of pity towards the player and the club for the continued bad luck suffered. However, former FC centre turned Wakefield player Cameron Scott was irked and responded to the minority of fans mocking the injury and criticising Trueman by labelling all fans of his former club ‘toxic’.

“People honestly don’t have a clue, toxic fan base,” he wrote on X quoting Trueman’s message.

Scott’s words prompted responses from supporters and the 24-year-old elaborated in his replies. He said to one supporter: “Playing at the top level ultimately takes a toll on the body. Injuries are part of the sport. Just because somebody gets injured doesn’t mean they’re no longer good enough. Whatever they earn, however they play, they’re out there for a reason which most people forget.”

One Hull FC supporter commented: “The toxic fanbase that supported you since day one…” Scott replied: “No denying I had support from plenty. But those who in my time there went out of their way to message my family about me, they were a bit different.”
