Jake Mamo ‘scared’ about the future

Jake Mamo is one of the most entertaining players in Super League.

However, ahead of his move to the Castleford Tigers, the utility back has spoken on Warrington’s new podcast Through the Wire about how his plans for the future have been moulded by scary times and how he got to this point in his rugby league career.

“I didn’t play well in my final year of Huddersfield, mentally I wasn’t in a good position,” Mamo said.

“I thought I had kind of thrown away my career a little bit – I had got offered a decent contract at Huddersfield and I wasn’t sure about whether or not I wanted to stay here so I said no and then I came here on less than half the money.

“I thought maybe this is the end of my rugby career and that made me think about rugby a bit differently but also pushed me to thinking this could be the end and I’ve got to think about other things to do.

“I don’t want to be playing until I’m 34 or 35, I’m too small and my body can’t handle it.

“There’s been a lot of head injuries in the past few years and I’m really scared about that.”
