Jake Connor has been named in a Huddersfield Giants squad for the first time this Super League season as Ian Watson’s men take on St Helens.
The return of Connor to Huddersfield, where he first broke through, was arguably the biggest transfer of the off-season and his return to the field has been highly anticipated.
He finally returns tonight albeit he only starts on the bench, with Will Pryce starting at full-back and Olly Russell and Esan Marsters in the halves.
Despite that Connor will be sure to make an impact off the bench and that’s something he promised to Jon Wilkin when interviewed in the pre-game warm-ups.
Connor confirmed the position that he’d likely assume when Ian Watson makes the decision to finally release Jake the snake.
“Most likely half-back, bit of shifting about to do at half time but most importantly just to get some minutes into my legs.”

When asked about what he’ll bring to the team he referenced the Giants noted inability to convert territory into points, in 2022 they forced the most goal-line drop-outs.
“I think that we’re good at completing our sets and putting teams in difficult places but sometimes we don’t post points and that’s my job as a half-back and it’s what i like doing, so I look forward to doing it tonight.”
He was also under no illusion of the task in front of him tonight with World Champion St Helens in their way.
“They’re the team that everyone wants to beat at the moment and no more than tonight. We know what we’ve got to do, stick to our process and if we can down to some attacking position we’ll score some points.”
