Jake Connor reveals what position he will play for Huddersfield Giants in 2023

Since Huddersfield Giants confirmed the return of Jake Connor for 2023, the question has been: where will he play?

An exciting player who has played in the halves, at centre and at fullback, in the last two seasons he has made more assists than anyone else in Super League including a huge 33 and these came at fullback.

However, in second place behind the then at Hull FC Connor was Huddersfield’s Tui Lolohea who was exceptional at fullback last year despite wearing six.

In 2023, he again will wear six but it doesn’t seem Connor will replace him at fullback with Connor revealing he’s set to play in the halves for Huddersfield in 2023 on Giants TV:

“It’s probably just a number. I think the plan is for me to play in the halves with Theo Fages to be honest with Tui Lolohea at fullback.

“Anything can happen of course. Injuries can play a part in as can performances. I’m still in rehab at the moment so I’ve got to train hard and try and get back in the team.

“I’m starting to feel good now, it’s been over four-and-a-half months since my knee operation, but I’ve had a hand operation as well so it’s been quite tough mentally not just physically.”

Connor is very excited about the season ahead and what the Giants can achieve.

He previously made a bold statement about the calibre of the Giants squad and what they can achieve at a fan event where the club’s squad numbers were revealed and he was confirmed as the club’s new number one replacing NRL bound Will Pryce who returns to 32.

He said:

“I think it’s going to be a good year. We’ve made some good signings, some exciting signings we just need that time on the training fields to make sure it all gels.

“I think we have a great squad going into this year. Probably if you look across the league, it’s probably the best squad when you actually look at it so I think we’ve got a real chance this year.”
