Jake Connor not sure he will get into the Huddersfield Giants team as he battles injury

Jake Connor is back at Huddersfield Giants in 2023 after six years with Hull FC.

The fullback is a star signing for the Giants and has taken the number one shirt for the new season though Ian Watson has said that number six Tui Lolohea is his first choice fullback.

This speaks to something Connor has said himself.

The fullback, who is battling injury, is unsure he will get into the Giants’ team

He said on Giants TV:

“It’s kind of hard for me because I want to be back now and in with the lads competing for a spot. It’s going to be tough because when I’ve been watching they’ve been training the house down and players in them positions have been looking great. It’s not one of them where I’m just going to come straight back, I’ll have to force my way back into the team and get back to my best.”

The Giants have drafted in the likes of Esan Marsters, Harry Rushton and former St Helens star Kevin Naiqama from the NRL.

Meanwhile, they brought in three bodies from Wigan Warriors including two-time Grand Finalists Jake Bibby.

Thus the Giants have a special squad and Connor has talked up the Giants squad and leaders: “I think it’s a great mix, you’ve got experience and older lads. Chris Hill has come off a great World Cup, Jermaine has been around for ages, Leroy has been round for ages.

“Luke Yates is the cog of the team and then the likes of Tui have played in big World Cup games. We’ve plenty of experience and then you think them young guys in there like Will Pryce and Olly Russell and stuff like that. You know you’ve got a great mixture and there’s exciting times ahead.”

In the past, he describe the club’s squad as the best in Super League:

“I think it’s going to be a good year. We’ve made some good signings, some exciting signings we just need that time on the training fields to make sure it all gels.

“I think we have a great squad going into this year. Probably if you look across the league, it’s probably the best squad when you actually look at it so I think we’ve got a real chance this year.”
