“Jake Connor kissed your play-off hopes goodbye” – How social media reacted to yesterday’s rugby

Yesterday, both Hull FC and Castleford won their local derbies to help their play-off hopes. The Black and Whites edged Hull KR by a single point in a scintillating contest. Meanwhile there was drama at the Jungle as the Tigers claimed a 23-18 win over Wakefield. Well, that was my take from yesterday, but how did social media react?

Let’s start in Hull. The match winner in yesterday’s derby was once again Marc Sneyd. He did what he always seems to do and nailed a decisive drop goal to seal the win despite a late rally from the Robins. It’s safe to say he was showered in praise.

One Hull fan used his drop goal to take a swipe at one of their opponents.

Rowan Milnes missed a drop goal attempt in the first half and in the end it proved the difference. But we shouldn’t take away from the youngster’s performance. He was outstanding despite ending up on the losing side and received plenty of praise himself.

However, for me there was a clear cut Man of the Match and it wasn’t either halfback. It was Jake Connor he proved the difference thanks to his attacking prowess.

As per usual, he was also involved in some of the more heated moments in the game which naturally produced a response from Twitter.

However, despite the fact Connor was the star of the show, one man came up with the match winning play and that man was Jordan Lane.

Over at the Jungle, Cas just about edged a superb derby against Wakefield to claim their 16th derby day win in a row over Trinity. The win leaves Castleford well and truly in the play-off race and they can thank Danny Richardson for that. He’s appeared to find some fine form of late.

Meanwhile, despite being on the losing side Wakefield fans were relatively pleased. They believe the team are making serious improvements.
