Jake Connor has his say on future after firing shots at rugby union

Eddie Jones put all rugby league on red alert when he spoke of Jake Connor being able to play rugby union if he got fitter.

Sky Sports pundit Brian Carney made light work of the comments, calling Jones a ‘comedian’.

But, although Connor has called the 15-a-side game ‘boring’, he has not ruled out anything out in future and even agrees with the England boss that he needs to work on his fitness.

“He’s not wrong in saying I need to get fitter; it’s always been a thing of mine to get fitter, but union doesn’t look that hard,” Connor joked.

“We had a few chats when he was up here, he’s a great bloke and looks like a great coach.

“He’s one of those coaches whose players want to play for – he’s one of those that has a laugh and joke but who’s also not afraid to spray you in front of everyone.

“Never say never, but it looks a bit too boring for me.”

In light of Hull’s thrashing by Salford on Bank Holiday Monday, Connor knows his side needs to improve and get back to doing what they do best.

“All sides in Super League have all hit that dip in form but managed to bounce back and we know what we are capable of and we all need to turn up individually.

“We need to get back to how we were playing at the beginning of the season.

“Energy might play a part but we need to work harder for each other.

“We need those two points to have a chance of getting into those play-offs.”
