Jackson Hastings appears to have ruled out a return to Super League in the coming months. At least that’s according to Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks, who claims to have spoken with the Newcastle Knights man this week to get an update on his immediate future.
Reports Down Under have linked Hastings with a return to the Northern Hemisphere, where he represented both Salford Red Devils and Wigan Warriors earlier in his career, with reports claiming a switch was looking ‘likely’. It comes as Newcastle Knights are said to be looking to trim their wage bill.
Hastings has been a regular in the Knights line up for much of the season but has spent the last month playing for the club’s New South Wales Cup side. As such, talk of a return to Super League prompted speculation that he could be joining a number of English clubs.
The half-back is settled in his home country of Australia, though, it seems and has apparently ruled out a move to England.
“He has been linked with a return to Super League which is nothing new, this seems to happen every few month,” Brooks said live on Sky Sports as part of her weekly news round up.
“I spoke to the playmaker a couple of days ago and he said there is no truth in the rumours and he will, for the time being anyway, remain in the NRL playing Down Under.”
Jackson Hastings spent three and a half years in the Super League, joining Salford initially in 2018 and playing a key role as the club reached the Grand Final in 2019. He left the Red Devils to join Wigan Warriors ahead of the 2020 season, amassing a combined total of 87 appearances and 28 tries for the clubs before joining Wests Tigers in 2022.
