There has been plenty of big rugby league news and Super League news lately especially around transfers with Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors making moves for next year, Hull KR making a statement with a new signing ahead of the rest of this season in the shape of Brad Schneider but on the same day Warrington Wolves made a statement signing for next year in the shape Lachlan Fitzgibbon.
The Wolves beat out interest from Leeds Rhinos to sign the Newcastle Knights second-row.
The Rhinos had been in pole position but a late move from the Wolves and an improved offer saw them secure his services for 2024.
Former Man of Steel and Salford Red Devils and Wigan star Jackson Hastings, a current teammate of Fitzgibbon’s at Newcastle, has backed him to be a huge success: “Congratulations Fitzy! George Williams Lachlan will be the best edge combo in the league next year. Good luck 3 in defenders.”
However, as a fan responded to these social media comments saying Warrington still won’t win the Grand Final, Hastings said:
“Doesn’t worry me at all mate. As long as my mates happy and plays well, and regardless of other combos in the league which plenty are very good. I think these two will be hard to handle. Just an opinion, I know everyone wants to spray me for having an opinion.. but it’s only that.”
A bit of a tense situation but it soon fizzled out with Hastings then claiming that his former team Wigan will “again be the team to beat next year” which is surprising given St Helens’ recent monopoly of success:
“Na all good mate just trying to explain. Had a few people from UK come at me this morning. The way Wigan have signed they’ll be again the team to beat next year.”
