Jack Welsby gives injury update ahead of Grand Final

St Helens fans will have been crossing their fingers when they saw superstar Jack Welsby leave the field in the semi-final play-off against Leeds Rhinos.

Welsby was seen clutching his shoulder as he left the field in what looked like agony, though head coach Kristian Woolf downplayed the seriousness after the game.

And, now the utility man – who won the Young Super League Player of the Year at the latest awards night – has revealed that he is fighting fit and raring to go ahead of Saturday’s Grand Final showdown with the Catalans Dragons.

“It was a weird one, I was trying to punch too much above my weight with Konrad Hurrell and caught him a bit funny,” Welsby said.

“My shoulder is totally fine and it was just a bang, but I’m pretty much perfect and ready to go.

“I was more in pain at first, it was almost as if I caught a nerve or something, it was pretty numb.

“I got it strapped up and was ready to go back on, there was no thought of me missing the Grand Final.”
