Some Leeds fans have been calling for young Jack Sinfield to come into the first team.

That’s due to Leeds’ current plight and the groin injury set to keep Aidan Sezer out for a number of weeks.

Leeds have instead gone for trusted first team players with Liam Sutcliffe at seven allowing young Sinfield to learn his trade at under 18s level and reserve grade and it certainly seems to be paying off with Sinfield coming up with some heroics to win a great game against Wigan’s under 18s in a curtain raiser at Headingley ahead of Leeds’ derby with Huddersfield.

Credit where credit is due, the Warriors youngsters were outstanding and they stormed into an 18-0 lead with tries from Max Wood, Ethan Fitzgerald and Regan Sumner. Even as Leeds battled back, plenty of the Warriors young forwards shone with explosive line breaks but the Rhinos hung in there battling back to be level 22-all after a Sinfield penalty.

Sinfield can thank his outside backs for turning the tide with a burst from Max Simpson creating their position for Leeds’ equalising penalty. But it was a break from Sinfield himself which won the game.

He showed a dummy on the 40 metre line and broke through a number of tackles before moving the ball on with Leeds held just short. Despite a lung busting break, Sinfield immediately put himself in the pocket to nail the winning drop goal.

But his heroics didn’t end there as he came up with a massive try saving tackle late on alongside Dylan Proud to deny a certain try and win the game for the Rhinos.
