For only the third time this season, St Helens were beaten yesterday this time by the Catalans Dragons who gained a measure of revenge for their Grand Final defeat to the Saints last year.
It was one of the best games we’ve seen this season as the Dragons edged the contest 20-18. The Saints would have also been deserving winners after the took an early 8-0 lead and scored a superb try through Jack Welsby in the second half but they came up short putting extra pressure on their game with rivals Wigan at the Magic Weekend next week.
After the game, Alex Walmsley spoke to Saints TV about his disappointment with the result but said he felt that they’d done enough to win: “Disappointing result, we invested so much into the performance, into the game and to come up short in the end was really disappointing.
“We’d done more than enough to win the game, we created enough chances but ultimately in tough, tight games you’ve got to take those chances.
“It’s unfortunate but you’ve got to give credit to the opposition and put your hands up and saw ‘we were second best.'”

He also gave massive praise to the traveling fans who made the journey to see the Champions in action against one of their main title rivals:
“I’ve never seen an away support like it in Perpignan since I’ve been coming over here. It felt like a home game with the atmosphere they created.
“They always do come rain or shine.”
