Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson has labelled the injury crisis in his current squad as an “epidemic”.
The Giants sit at the foot of the Super League table with zero points and have yet to produce an eighty-minute performance.
However, Robinson has admitted that there’s a serious problem at the club when it comes to injuries.
They added another duo to their injury list following their defeat against Catalans Dragons, with loanee Bill Leyland failing his HIA test and Fenton Rogers picking up an ankle problem.
Speaking to the press on Monday, he said:Â “It’s ridiculous. It is honestly ridiculous. There’s obviously a review going on within our club of what we can change or what we can do differently to stop this but there have been freakish ones as well.”
Robinson discussed some key injuries, which are affecting his squad depth, especially so early on in the season.
He added:Â “Zac Woolford, I think, is one of the best nines and we’re really excited, not only for the Giants but to watch him play in Super League but he pretty much only lasted a few games.
“Niall Evalds, we signed, who is one of the best fullbacks I think in the comp. He lasted 35 minutes before he broke his foot.
“Adam Clune has not played. He played one game against Wigan and played really really well. He’s our director and our seven. Tui Lolohea is now out of the months and the list goes on and on.
“George King (calf), Harvey Wilson’s out (suspended), Jack Murchie’s out in the back row.”
Huddersfield Giants need first win to help them turn corner
The Huddersfield Giants boss understands that injuries are part of the game but admitted it’s difficult when the majority of his planned starting line-up is unavailable to him.
He said: “I think I counted that there’s 11 of our starting 17 out. I’m not whinging, I’m not moaning, that’s just the way rugby league goes but we’ve got to try and figure out why that’s happened, what we can do, if there’s anything we can do, or is it just a freak?
The Giants face a tough test over Easter as they travel to Leeds Rhinos in the third Good Friday fixture, live on Sky Sports+ and Super League+.
Looking ahead to the game, he said:Â “We’ve also got to try and get a win on the board somehow with these young kids that are trying extremely hard. That’s one thing I can never take away from the squad.
“Even in the defeats, they’ve stuck together. They’ve done the right thing for themselves, for the family, for the club, for the teammates. They are trying really, really hard. We’ve just got a really inexperienced group at the moment. “
