“It was really good to finally get a win for Shaun” – Tommy Makinson and Justin Sangare react to “special” international

Yesterday we enjoyed the first test match since the pandemic began butting its head into the international rugby scene.

So, yesterday was a historic day all round especially for those who made their debuts and for the England side as a whole as they claimed the first win of a new era under Shaun Wane.

That was certainly the view of Tommy Makinson who crossed twice in England’s 30-10 win against the French. His performance was near flawless again proving that he is indeed world class.

Granted the performance wasn’t quite the level we saw him reach in 2018 as he claimed the Golden Boot on the back of his showings against New Zealand, but it again seemed to indicate his undroppable status on the wing for England.

Despite his handful of appearances in an England shirt before and the aforementioned quality he displayed in the 2018 tests, yesterday still clearly meant a lot to him based off what he had to say after the game: “It’s always special putting on that international jersey especially coming here to Perpignan playing in front of a famous crowd.

“It was really good to finally get a win for Shaun [Wane].”

On the other side of the coin, Justin Sangare was very pleased to feature in the historic fixture for France. The young forward has been exceptional for Toulouse this year developing into a brilliant impact prop- a role he nailed for France yesterday helping change the flow of the game and grabbing a try.

After the game he said: “It was a superb experience to play this match.

“I am very happy, [scoring the first try] was like a dream. It was another positive in a great season.

“And now we work more moving towards the World Cup.”
