A Wakefield lad and now Wakefield Trinity Head Coach Mark Applegarth is delighted to see the club redeveloping Belle Vue.

It comes as he admitted it was getting “a little embarrassing” playing at Belle Vue prior to the start of this exciting redevelopment which will surely impress IMG ahead of the introduction of licencing and is already coming along fantastically as the images released by Wakefield Chairman John Minards shows.

Speaking to Serious About Rugby League ahead of the new season which sees Wakefield begin the season against Catalans Dragons on Friday night, Applegarth said on the stadium redevelopment:

“From my point of view being a Wakefield lad, it’s pleasing to finally see Wakefield get some facilities that has been long overdue.

“I think we have a responsibility as a sport to ensure that we have modern facilities. The sport is never going to grow and get those new deals unless you do have those modern facilities.

“The average fan now wants to come and watch a game under those conditions.

“So I’m proud that we’re finally getting it upgraded. Players want to play in nice stadiums, that’s what sport is all about so I’m sure they’re all excited.

“It’s been bubbling in the background. We’re just focusing on what we get paid to do which is coach or play rugby.

“It was getting a bit embarrassing wasn’t it playing top level sport under those conditions. Once everything is finished it should be a brilliant place to come and watch rugby league.”

Belle Vue will play host to the Round One clash between Wakefield and Catalans.
